Asian Handicap Refunds and Half Wins: How Often Each Line Splits
Draws and one-goal home wins decide most Asian handicap settlements. Here is how often each line, from −2 to +0.75, pays in full, pays half or hands your stake back.

Every Asian handicap bettor knows the five ways a ticket can settle, but few know how often each one actually happens on the line they are holding. I wanted the wiring under the result: which lines split, which refund, and which leave you with nothing in between. The sample is 156,035 league matches across 22 European divisions, every one with a handicap price.
The headline is that the stake is not fully won or lost far more often than most people assume. Home −0.25 part-settled in 29.8% of matches, and level-ball bets were refunded in 29.6%. If you read my today's football tips page, this is the settlement map I keep in my head before I commit to a line.
1Every home line, split into five settlement outcomes
Read the grid line by line and the structure jumps out. Whole lines such as 0, −1 and −2 can only refund. Quarter lines can only produce half results. Half lines such as −0.5 and −1.5 are pure coin flips with no middle ground. At home −1.5 the home side won in full 48.9% and lost in full 51.1%. At −0.5 the split was 49.3% against 50.7%.
The interesting rows are the quarters. At home −0.75 the home side won in full 30.2%, won half 26.9% and lost in full 43.0%. That half-win band is the one-goal victory being cushioned, not a bonus result.
Quarter lines can only end as full or half results; whole lines can only refund, never split.

| Full win | Half win | Refund | Half loss | Full loss | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home −2 | 38.4% | 0.0% | 22.5% | 0.0% | 39.1% |
| Home −1.75 | 31.9% | 23.4% | 0.0% | 0.0% | 44.6% |

| Home 0 | 37.0% | 0.0% | 29.6% | 0.0% | 33.4% |
| Home +0.25 | 29.2% | 27.5% | 0.0% | 0.0% | 43.3% |
| Home +0.5 | 50.2% | 0.0% | 0.0% | 0.0% | 49.8% |
| Home +0.75 | 43.8% | 0.0% | 0.0% | 25.6% | 30.6% |
What I take from this is simple. The line you choose decides which scoreline becomes a refund, a half or a full result, so it pays to know which margin you are really betting on.
2Draws and one-goal home wins drive most settlements
This is the engine behind every cell in the grid. Of all matches, 26.5% ended level and 22.2% were one-goal home wins. Those two scorelines account for most refunds and half results on the lines bettors use most. One-goal away wins made up 16.6%, two-goal home wins 12.7% and two-goal away wins 8.0%.
The tails are thin. Home wins by four or more happened in 3.4% of matches, and away wins by three or more in 4.7%. Deep lines live on those margins, which is why they part-settle less often.

| 156,035 matches with a handicap price | |
|---|---|
| Away by 3+ | 4.7% |
| Away by 2 | 8.0% |
| Away by 1 | 16.6% |
| Draw | 26.5% |
| Home by 1 | 22.2% |
| Home by 2 | 12.7% |
| Home by 3 | 5.9% |
| Home by 4+ | 3.4% |
When I look at a fixture, the question I ask is not who wins but how likely a draw or a single-goal margin is. Low-tempo sides that sit in a mid-block and struggle to break a press drift towards those two buckets.
3Home −0.25 and level ball split stakes most often
Ranked by how often the stake is neither fully won nor fully lost, home −0.25 leads at 29.8%, with level ball just behind at 29.6%. Both sit on the draw, which is the single most common margin. At the other end, home −2 part-settled in 22.5% of matches, the lowest on the board.
The bars fall away as the line moves from the draw towards bigger margins, because those outcomes are rarer. The pattern follows the margin chart closely.

| Refunds (whole lines) or half results (quarter lines) | |
|---|---|
| Home −0.25 | 29.8% |
| Home 0 | 29.6% |
| Home −1.25 | 27.8% |
| Home +0.25 | 27.5% |
| Home −0.75 | 26.9% |
| Home −1 | 26.2% |
| Home +0.75 | 25.6% |
| Home −1.75 | 23.4% |
| Home −2 | 22.5% |
One caveat matters more than any figure here. A refund or a half result is not good or bad in itself, because the price on each line already reflects how often these outcomes occur. Line mixes also shifted across seasons, so treat the shares as a long-run map rather than a forecast.
4Moving from level ball to −1, quarter by quarter
This table shows the trade-offs between neighbouring lines. At home 0 the side won in full 37.0%, refunded 29.6% and lost in full 33.4%, at a median price of 1.85. Step to −0.25 and those refunds become half losses. The full loss share drops to 27.9%, the full win share rises to 42.3%, and the median price lifts to 1.94.
Further along, −0.5 removes every middle outcome, and −0.75 brings back a half-win band of 26.9%. At −1 the home side won in full 36.6%, was refunded 26.2% and lost in full 37.2%, at a median 1.95.
| Line | Matches | Full win | Part result | Full loss | Median price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home 0 | 33,201 | 37.0% | 29.6% | 33.4% | 1.85 |
| Home −0.25 | 31,551 | 42.3% | 29.8% | 27.9% | 1.94 |
| Home −0.5 | 25,441 | 49.3% | 0.0% | 50.7% | 1.94 |
| Home −0.75 | 14,058 | 30.2% | 26.9% | 43.0% | 1.93 |
| Home −1 | 10,268 | 36.6% | 26.2% | 37.2% | 1.95 |
I rarely see bettors weigh these neighbours properly. Each step changes what a draw or a narrow win does to your ticket, and the median prices barely move in comparison.
Betting notes
- Price the draw first. Draws made up 26.5% of matches and decide level-ball and −0.25 settlements. Form a view on the draw before choosing between those two lines.
- Know your one-goal outcome. One-goal home wins were 22.2% of matches, and they settle −0.75 as a half win and −1 as a refund. Pick the line whose one-goal result you can live with.
- Use −0.5 for clarity. At home −0.5 there is no middle outcome: 49.3% full wins against 50.7% full losses. Choose it when you want a clean verdict rather than a cushion.
